ASC Warranty: Plans, Coverage, Claims and Cancellation

Clara Whitmore By Clara Whitmore ✓

An ASC warranty is a vehicle service agreement offered through car dealers across the United States. It is run by Auto Services Company, Inc., which says its history goes back to 1986, making 2026 its 40th year. You can’t buy it online. You get it at a participating dealer, usually when you buy the vehicle.

This guide covers what ASC warranty offers, how the plan levels differ, how claims get paid, and what to know about cancelling or transferring a plan. Everything here comes from ASC Warranty’s own published materials. Your actual contract is what counts, so read it before you sign.

What Is ASC Warranty?

ASC Warranty is a vehicle service agreement, often called an extended warranty or extended service contract. It is not the manufacturer’s warranty. It is a separate product that pays for covered mechanical repairs after a breakdown.

Key facts from the company:

  • Offered through dealers, not sold directly to the public
  • Plan terms range from 3 months/3,000 miles up to 96 months/120,000 miles
  • $0 deductible on most plans (see the note on this below)
  • Nationwide coverage
  • 24-hour emergency roadside assistance included on every agreement
  • Lender approved, and accepted by most major finance sources, so the plan can be rolled into your vehicle financing
  • Claims handled through toll-free lines and paid directly to the repair facility

ASC Warranty Plan Levels

ASC Warranty offers four coverage levels. Which ones you see depends on your dealer.

Drivetrain Plus Coverage

The entry-level plan. It covers the core components that make the vehicle move:

  • Engine
  • Automatic transmission
  • Standard (manual) transmission
  • Drive axle assemblies
  • Seals and gaskets

Platinum Drivetrain

Adds systems beyond the basic drivetrain:

  • Engine, automatic and standard transmission, front and rear drive axle assemblies
  • Seals and gaskets
  • Air conditioning
  • Cooling
  • Electrical
  • 24-hour roadside assistance
  • Rental car allowance

Deluxe Coverage

Includes everything in Drivetrain Plus, plus:

  • Air conditioning
  • Front suspension
  • Steering
  • Brakes
  • Cooling
  • Fuel delivery
  • Electrical

Factory Type Coverage

The most comprehensive level. It includes all items covered under the manufacturer’s original coverage. It is an exclusionary plan: instead of listing what is covered, the contract lists what is not. Examples include oil, brake shoes, belts, hoses, tires and tune-up items. The service agreement has the complete list.

Tip: With a named-component plan like Drivetrain Plus or Deluxe, a part that isn’t listed isn’t covered. With an exclusionary plan, a part is covered unless it is listed as excluded. Ask your dealer to show you the specific contract for the plan you’re considering.

Roadside Assistance and Rental Benefits

ASC warranty includes roadside assistance on every agreement. The covered services include:

  • 24-hour emergency towing
  • Battery jump-start
  • Flat tire assistance
  • Fuel delivery
  • Other related services, all through one toll-free call

The company says the reason for the call does not have to be something your mechanical plan covers. Most plans also include car rental reimbursement for the life of the agreement. The plan descriptions list a rental car allowance on Platinum Drivetrain. Ask your dealer to confirm the exact rental terms on the plan you’re offered.

Because these benefits start on day one, ASC warranty says you can use roadside assistance and rental reimbursement even while the manufacturer’s warranty is still active.

Where Can You Get Repairs?

You can take your vehicle to any ASE Certified repair facility, which means you can usually go wherever you normally do. You don’t have to use a specific network or the selling dealer.

How ASC Warranty Claims Work

Claims are paid directly to the repair facility, so you shouldn’t need to pay up front and wait for reimbursement. ASC Warranty says it pays by Visa.

  1. Take your vehicle to an ASE Certified repair facility.
  2. Present your ASC Warranty agreement to the service professional.
  3. Have the shop contact the ASC Warranty claims department.
  4. The claim is reviewed and, if approved, paid to the shop.

The plan covers parts and labor. You are responsible for fluids, filters and sales tax.

If a shop won’t accept the direct card payment, ASC warranty says it will reimburse you promptly for the authorized amount. It also says it pays shops immediately and uses industry-standard manuals to set pricing, and that it will call your repair facility ahead of time to establish a relationship before you buy.

Does ASC Warranty Have a Deductible?

The plan brochure lists a $0 deductible under features that apply to all plans. The FAQ says there is no deductible on most plans. These two statements don’t quite match. Before buying, confirm in writing that the specific plan you choose has a $0 deductible.

Can You Cancel Your Agreement?

Yes. According to ASC Warranty’s FAQ:

  • Within 30 days of purchase: full refund
  • After 30 days: prorated refund of the unused portion of the contract
  • ASC Warranty says it does not prorate from the vehicle’s in-service date, as some companies do

The contract has the complete refund terms, so read that section before you buy.

Is ASC Warranty Transferable?

Yes. You can transfer the agreement to another private purchaser of your vehicle. ASC Warranty notes that a vehicle with a service agreement can command a higher resale value because the next buyer has protection against large repair bills. The agreement doesn’t transfer to a dealer on a trade-in; it transfers only to a private buyer.

Is It Worth It?

ASC Warranty’s argument is that today’s vehicles are complex, and one major repair can cost more than the agreement itself. It also says the price rises as a vehicle ages and gains mileage, so buying early costs less. That is the company’s reasoning, and it’s a fair one to weigh, but it’s a sales argument, not a guarantee of savings.

It may fit you if:

  • You’re buying from a dealer that offers it and want to finance the coverage with the vehicle
  • You want to keep your own mechanic rather than use a restricted network
  • You want roadside assistance and rental benefits bundled in

Be cautious if:

  • You’re still well inside the manufacturer’s warranty and don’t need the overlap
  • You haven’t confirmed which components your specific plan covers
  • You assume “$0 deductible” or “factory type” means everything is covered

Before you buy any service contract, get the full contract in writing, check the exclusions, and confirm the term, mileage limits, deductible and cancellation terms.
