Dyson Warranty: What’s Covered, What Isn’t, and How to Make a Claim

Clara Whitmore By Clara Whitmore ✓

Dyson machines are premium purchases, so it pays to know what protection comes with them. Every Dyson product comes with a limited warranty. It covers repair or replacement and ongoing support if your machine has a manufacturing defect. This guide covers how long the Dyson warranty lasts for each product type, what Dyson will and won’t fix, and the steps for making a claim.

The terms below reflect Dyson’s U.S. Limited Warranty, last updated December 16, 2025. Terms differ by country, so check the warranty included with your machine.

How Long Is the Dyson Warranty?

Warranty length depends on the product category.

Warranty Products
2-year limited warranty Cordless vacuums, fans and heaters, purifiers and humidifiers, hair dryers, hair stylers, hair straighteners, audio
5-year limited warranty Corded vacuums, hand dryers, lights
Dyson Renewed (refurbished) 1 year for hair dryers, stylers and straighteners; 6 months for cordless vacuums, fans and heaters, purifiers and humidifiers, audio

Buying refurbished gets you a shorter Dyson warranty. If you’re weighing a Renewed unit against a new one, factor in the difference between 6 months and 2 years.

When Does the Warranty Start?

Coverage starts on the date of purchase or the date of delivery, whichever is later. That matters for online orders, since the clock begins when the machine arrives, not when you click “buy.”

If you can’t produce proof of purchase or delivery, Dyson starts the warranty 90 days after the manufacture date in its records. That can cost you weeks or months of coverage, so keep your receipts.

What the Dyson Warranty Covers

The Dyson warranty covers original defects in materials and workmanship, provided the machine is used for normal domestic purposes as the user manual describes. If a covered defect appears, Dyson provides all labor and parts needed to get the machine working properly again, at no cost to you.

A few details worth knowing:

  • Repairs extend your warranty. Any time your machine spends being repaired or held for warranty work is added to the warranty period.
  • Replacements don’t reset the clock. Replacing a part, or the machine, doesn’t start a fresh warranty term.
  • Returned parts become Dyson’s property.
  • Your statutory rights stay intact. The warranty is in addition to the consumer rights you have by law.

What the Dyson Warranty Does Not Cover

Dyson won’t repair or replace a machine when the defect results from:

  • Accidental damage, misuse, or neglect, including use that doesn’t follow the user manual
  • Blockages, and the cost of clearing them or washing filters. The manual explains how to check for and clear blockages yourself.
  • Normal wear and tear, including wearing parts such as the clear bin, filter, brush bar and power cord
  • Battery run-time reduction caused by battery age or use
  • Non-Dyson parts or accessories that aren’t produced or recommended by Dyson
  • Faulty installation (unless Dyson installed it)
  • Unsuitable surfaces, such as rubble, ash, plaster, drywall, liquids or wet surfaces
  • Floor or carpet damage from running the brush bar when it should be off
  • Commercial or rental use (the warranty is for normal domestic use)
  • Counterfeit machines. Dyson says counterfeits are likely unsafe. If it finds a unit isn’t genuine, it won’t service it and may return it to you or keep or destroy it. In exchange, it provides a letter confirming the product is counterfeit, which you can show the seller or your credit card company when seeking a refund.

Intentional cosmetic decoration or modification that affects a machine’s refurbishment, restoration or usability also voids the limited warranty.

Where You Buy Matters

Dyson says it can’t control the quality of machines sold by unauthorized sellers. For that reason, the U.S. warranty applies only to machines bought from Dyson or a Dyson authorized seller, and Dyson can reject claims for machines from unauthorized sellers, including unauthorized websites.

On Amazon.com, Dyson lists only three authorized sellers: Amazon.com, Allied Hand Dryers, and Berl’s Commercial Supply. Before buying from a marketplace listing, check the seller name against Dyson’s Authorized Retailers and Sellers List.

The Dyson warranty also covers only the original end-user purchaser and is not transferable. A machine you buy second-hand won’t carry the original owner’s coverage.

Using Your Dyson Outside the United States

Dyson warranty terms are tied to the country where you buy. Dyson’s U.S. terms say that for universal voltage (100–240V) machines, non-commercial use outside the U.S. can still be covered if:

  1. You use the right plug adapter or voltage converter for the country
  2. The machine hasn’t been damaged by incorrect electrical connection, substandard adapters or voltage irregularities
  3. All other warranty terms are followed

Even then, service for universal voltage machines may only be available in the U.S., and shipping fees, duties or other costs for repair or replacement are your responsibility.

Other regions have their own rules. Dyson’s Malaysia and Philippines pages, for example, say the warranty is valid only for local machines bought from authorized channels. Dyson’s New Zealand page states that the manufacturer’s warranty only applies in the country of purchase. If you bought a Dyson abroad or through a gray-market importer, confirm with Dyson in your own country before assuming you’re covered.

Can You Use a Third-Party Repair Shop?

Yes, with a caveat. Dyson says having your machine repaired at an independent shop, or using third-party parts, won’t void the warranty. However, Dyson won’t cover any damage, costs or repairs that result from work done by unauthorized agents or from non-Dyson parts. If the machine is still under warranty, it’s usually safest to have Dyson handle the repair.

Do You Need to Register Your Dyson?

Registration isn’t what validates your Dyson warranty. Dyson says registering gives you access to tailored machine support, how-to guides and user manuals. Dyson Community staff have said the guarantee is validated by your original proof of purchase, such as a store receipt or an online order confirmation email.

Still, a My Dyson account is worth setting up. You can see your registered machines, access personalized guides and track how much warranty time is left.

One Dyson Community user reported that a new V11 showed the guarantee period as “not confirmed” in My Dyson even though it was registered. Dyson’s response was to retain the order confirmation email as proof of the original purchase date and to contact the Care team if the issue persists.

How to Make a Dyson Warranty Claim

  1. Gather your proof. Find your receipt, order confirmation or delivery note.
  2. Collect your machine’s details. You’ll need the model name or number and the serial number.
  3. Note where and when you bought it, and when it was delivered.
  4. Contact the Dyson Helpline. In the U.S., call 1-866-693-9766. Service can’t take place until you’ve supplied these details.
  5. Follow Dyson’s instructions. Dyson will repair or replace a defective part or machine that’s covered. All work is coordinated by Dyson or its authorized agents.

Without proof of purchase or delivery, any work carried out on your machine may be chargeable.

Tips to Protect Your Coverage

  • Keep your receipt and delivery confirmation somewhere safe, such as a photo or a folder in your email
  • Buy only from Dyson or an authorized seller
  • Wash filters and clear blockages according to the manual, since neglect is a common reason claims get denied
  • Use genuine Dyson parts and accessories
  • Don’t use the machine for commercial purposes
  • Register in My Dyson so your warranty period is easy to check

Only if you bought from an authorized seller. On Amazon.com, Dyson lists Amazon.com, Allied Hand Dryers and Berl’s Commercial Supply as its authorized sellers.

Dyson will start the warranty 90 days after the manufacture date in its records, so you may lose some coverage. Check your email for an order confirmation or ask the retailer for a copy.

Refurbished machines carry a shorter limited warranty: 1 year for hair tools, 6 months for cordless vacuums, fans and heaters, purifiers and humidifiers, and audio.

Does a third-party repair void my warranty?

No, but Dyson won’t cover problems caused by that repair or by non-Dyson parts.
